Notes:

Now, that you know the basics of What ISO 9000 is, I will next discuss why organizations may want to use it in their organizations.

The ISO 9000 standards have been adopted by over 100 countries. This includes countries such as: Austria, Argentina, Germany, UK, Japan and the US.

There are now more then 100,000 companies worldwide that have been registered to the ISO 9000 standards, since its introduction in 1987.

The rate of registration has more then doubled in the last 5 years and projected to double again in 3 years.

There are over 10,000 US and Canadian ISO 9000 registered companies and the pace of registrations have increased by 4 times since 1993.

The US gov. agencies that have adopted ISO 9000 are:

Department of Defense

NASA

FDA

The Big Three Auto Makers have adopted QS9000, which is ISO 9000 plus the big three’s sector and customer specific requirements.

With always these different identities adopting the ISO 9000 standards, one of the overall goals of ISO 9000 which is to Harmonize World trade is starting to happen.
